The Renaissance Market is an excellent place to sell
and showcase handcrafted items. The Market features
prominent
exposure on Guadalupe Street, also known as "The
Drag." Vendors enjoy a steady stream of foot
traffic, including tourists, U.T. students and
their families. The market is regulated by the City
of
Austin, and all
artisans must be licensed by the Renaissance
Market Commission before selling their wares at
the market. All items sold at the market must be
handcrafted
by the artisan. To become a vendor at the Austin Renaissance
Market, complete the following steps:
- Review Requirements
for Handmade Items and
Artisan Procedures (printable form).
- Complete a TX Sales and Use Permit, which is available
online
or can be obtained at the Comptroller of Public Accounts
Office:111 W. 6th St.
- Attend a Renaissance Market Commission Meeting.
Meetings are held at the Parks and Recreation Department
Headquarters,
200 S. Lamar Blvd. the second Monday of every month
at 6:00 PM. To be licensed, applicants must provide
- Completed forms, (available at the meeting)
- Sales and tax use permit
- Photo ID
- Samples of all types of work to be displayed
- Yearly fee of $200 (if license is obtained from
Oct - May). Your license is good for one year, from
October 1st through September 30th.

- Prorated fee of $100 (if license is obtained
from June - Sept)
or
- Proof if exemption. License fee exemption will
be granted for those who can provide written proof
of one of the following:
- You are a senior (60 or older)
- You are a minor (17 or younger)
- You are disabled
